Beef Stew Meat 1.7 lbs = 5.95 – Aldi
Tomato paste = 0.39 – Aldi
Onion- already had one
Egg Noodles = 1.29 – Aldi
Sour Cream = 1.29 – Aldi

Total = $8.92

Family Review:
Nobody had any complaints. The meat was still a little tough after the hour and a half. Maybe next time it would work better in a crock pot?.

Project Dog Crate

I have 2 dogs, a Rottweiler and a mixed dog.  I have been pricing dog crates for a few months now and those suckers are expensive.  Especially for the size I would need.  So I had some stuff lying around the house from the improvements I’ve been making and I started to think how I can make one.  I used a piece of wood that was 45″ x 37″ as the base.   I cut some linoleum scraps to size and glued it down.   I also had to use some seam sealer because I didn’t have a piece of linoleum large enough.


Then I put some nails all around the edges.  Only hammer them in about 1/2 way because they are used to hold the fencing In place.


The fencing I had was 39″ tall and I cut 2 pieces at 50″ and one piece at 31″. The two large pieces go along the long sides and curl over to the front. The 31″ piece goes across the back.

To keep the fencing in place, hammer the nails over the fencing


39 ” tall was too high, so I folded the fencing over at 26″ from the base on both sides and just attached the top together with zip ties

(Would love some ideas on how to make this look better?)

Then I also attached the back with some zip ties and curled the extra wire around the posts. (Please disregard the dog food. My 3 yr old was trying to get the dogs to come in)

I then cut a door that was 18″ x 19 ” and attached one side with zip ties and curled the extra wire around.

I put electrical wire connectors on the fence of the open side of the door because after cutting the fence it is wicked sharp. I have a bunch of cuts and scratches from working with it.

The yellow arrow shows the connectors on the door and the blue arrow shows how I bent the fencing on the side of the door to hook the door closed.


The part that took the longest was curling all the extra wire around. All in all it took me about 3 hours to finish and I saved about $200. 🙂

This will only be used inside and that’s why the wood base is good enough as is. If for some reason you wanted to use riis outside you wood have to protect the wood on the bottom. Hope you all enjoyed this and as always, comments are encouraged!

Meal Planning Week 1

As promised, here us the first week of meal planning. 

1Dish Chicken and Rice
Coq au vin. – crockpot dish
Sea Bass Couscous
Hamburger and Sour Cream Casserole
Hungarian Goulash
Stuffed Peppers
Kielbasa and Cabbage – my own easy recipe

All you need to make the kielbasa and cabbage dish is a big pot, kielbasa, cabbage, butter, and pepper to taste.

– fill the pot about a quarter full of water, put about 2 T butter in, cut up cabbage ( I use 2 heads to feed 6 people) and place in pot.  Cook on Med heat until the cabbage is soft, about 30 min.  Slice the kielbasa ( again I use 2 pckgs.). And place in pot.  Stir it up, turn on low and let cook for about another 10 min until kielbasa is warmed.   Season with pepper.

Shopping List:

2.5 lbs + a whole chicken
3 slices bacon
1 lb sea bass (or other fish)
3 lbs. Beef stew meat
2 lbs Ground Beef
2 pckgs. Kielbasa
4 hot or mild peppers
1 pckg mushrooms
3/4 lb sweet potato
2 c chick peas
4 lg Green Peppers
2 cans tomato sauce
4 bags egg noodles
Brown rice
White rice
5 c chicken broth
1 c cottage cheese
1 c sour cream
Red wine

* I didn’t include all the spices needed because most of the time they are already in the cabinet.

New Years Resolution

I’ve been working on my new years resolution over these past few days. My goal is to budget a little better and I’ve been thinking about the best way to do that. I’ve come to the conclusion that I could save the most money by planning my meals. I hate grocery shopping and I’m not very fond of cooking nice meals after I’ve been working all day and running the kids around. I have spent a lot of money on unhealthy fast food and frozen dinners. My goal is to go back to something I did when I was first starting out on my own. That is to pull out my recipe box and start from scratch again. Back then I had tons of recipes that I would never make, mostly because I didn’t have the ingredients or it was too time consuming. So, I’m ramping it up this time. I’m going to make my recipe box, but also have readily available preplanned meals per week with an accompanied shopping list. I am excited about this because I think this is something I can stick with. This way if i haven’t had a chance to sit down and plan my meals I can just grab an index card and be on my way out the door. I will be sharing some of my recipes and weekly meals with shopping lists included. So, keep an eye out for my Meal Planning Monday. As I’m sure you guessed it, I’ll be posting these on Mondays. 😉

Falcons crotchet blanket

So for Christmas this year, I decided to make my 17 year old son a falcons blanket.   Its just a simple pattern with two tone squares and the falcons logo in the center.  He is really big onto football.  One of the biggest fans and an outstanding player.  Over the years he has gone to Florida for national championships and he is in the newspaper every week during football season.  He even made it on the ESPN website once!   I am so proud of him.   

  Anyway,  I figured I would share this with you all.


My Healthy Herb Regimine

As I stated in my “about” page, I was diagnosed with emphysema at the young age if 32 when my lung collapsed.  I have done lots of research on herbs and vitamins since then.  My next follow up appointment is in March so we shall see how this is working out. 

With the emphysema I also had nodules on my lungs that are most likely fungus.  So, for fungus I am taking flax seed oil, and garlic.  For cardiovascular and cancer prevention I am taking Grape seed and astragalus root.  Specifically for my lungs I am taking mullien leaf and horsetail.  **

Below are some other uses for each of the herbs I’ve mentioned :

Flax seed oil: Lowers cholesterol, protects against heart disease, controls blood pressure,  reduces inflammation for gout, controls constipation, treats acne and psoriasis, treats menstrual symptoms, guards against the effects of aging

Garlic:  helps prevent blood clots, prevention and treatment of common cold,

Grape seed:  Antioxidants, reduce cholesterol,

Astragalus: increase white blood cell count, boost immune system, manages diabetes, enhances liver and kidney functions.

Mullein Leaf:  expectorant, anti inflammatory,  ear ache, soften skin

Horsetail: antioxidant,  gingivitis,  tonsillitis,  acne, athletes foot, bed wetting in children
